Beth Ellen (Scott) Cox left this world and claimed her place in heaven on January 18, 2023, with her devoted daughter Rhonda at her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her last days were spent surrounded by her loving children and family. Beth was born in Lincoln, Maine July 24, 1942, to Kenneth Scott and Tressa (McCalpine) Scott, and raised by her mother and her adoring stepfather Norman. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 34 years, Robert (Bob) A. Cox. Beth is survived by her beloved children, Richard (Damon) Angelone, Michael Angelone and wife Sue, Rhonda DeNoto and husband Mike, and Kyle Cox. She is also survived by siblings Paul Furrow, Paula Furrow Norman (Butch) Furrow and wife Anita, Judy Tatters, Marian (Furrow) Hoyt, and Ken Scott and former wife Mary, as well as current wife Maureen. In addition, she leaves behind grandchildren Carissa, Amber, Wren, Frankie, Mickey, and Randy, her dearest sister-in-law June Alger (whom Beth considered as her sister), and a very large extended family of great-grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and long-time friends. The list is extensive, and Beth loved every one of them. Once her heart was given her loyalty never wavered, regardless of distance, divorce, or disagreement.
Beth was a professional realtor at Griffin Realtors in Southington, CT for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling and dining out with Bob, winning at her favorite slot machine at Foxwoods, and watching UCONN Women’s Basketball and the Red Sox. She loved donuts, dancing, music, and shopping. And of course, her dogs. Scooter, Jade, Mitzi, and finally Lucy were all well-loved and very spoiled. Among her favorite travel destinations was her cherished home state of Maine. Many Independence Day holidays were spent with Bob and family in Bar Harbor and Lincoln, and she was proud to announce to everyone she met in her later years that she was indeed from beautiful Maine.
Beth’s life was one of tireless devotion to family and friends. She cared for her mother Tressa in her own home for many years prior to her passing, and hers was the house where all the large family gatherings were held, with plenty of home cooked food and drink for all. She was giving in all ways – with an open heart and a big smile. She took great pride in her appearance and freely admitted to owning more clothes than she could ever wear. She loved hats (both silly and sophisticated) and sparkly jewelry; always had her hair styled, her nails polished, and her eye makeup in place. She was a ‘second mom’ to many and was quick to offer a kind word or an attentive ear to anyone who needed her. She will be remembered fondly and missed by everyone who knew her.
Please join us for a celebration of Beth’s life on February 11th, 2023 at 2 p.m. at St. Gregory CCD Center at 1043 Stafford Avenue Bristol CT. In case of inclement weather, the snow date is February 18th, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Beth’s honor.
