Paul S. Cotton, 87, of Yarmouth Port, MA died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife Toby R. (Simon) Cotton, his sister Sarale Summer and his parents Samuel and Sadie Cotton of Worcester, MA.
Paul was born in Worcester, MA and graduated from Classical High School in 1954. He received an associate degree from Worcester Jr. College and an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1959. Paul married his beloved Toby in 1961 and they lived happily together in Worcester, MA, Syracuse, NY, Wayland, MA and Irvine, CA before returning to their home state and settling in Barnstable, MA. Paul was Toby’s devoted caretaker for 17 years before she died after a long battle with cancer in 2001. For years after, Paul volunteered his time driving cancer patients from Cape Cod to Boston hospitals for care.
Before he retired in the early 90’s, Paul had a long career in senior executive sales roles with Foster Grant and Frem Corp. Paul was well-known for his passion for politics and youth hockey, and, of course, for his completely rational and not at all obsessive love for Boston sports teams! He launched the senior “Sports Talk” group with gavel in hand at the Barnstable senior center where he was easily recognized by his engaging smile and boisterous laugh. You could often find Paul debating politics when he wasn’t grumbling about the latest Boston sports debacle.
In 2002, Paul met his cherished partner, Barbara Berelowitz and they enjoyed the next 22 years traveling, taking classes at Cape Cod Community College, and celebrating holidays and special occasions (Superbowl Sunday!) with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his two children: Bill Cotton and his wife Mary of Edwards, CO; Susan Cotton and her partner Steve Innis of Marstons Mills, MA; four loving grandchildren: Julia Morse, Rebecca Cotton, Ethan Cotton and Sarah Cotton; two siblings: Audrey Cooper of Apple Valley, CA and David Cotton and his wife Priscilla of New Fane, VT; and, numerous nieces and nephews who all love their “Uncle Paul”.
A funeral and burial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 10 at Worcester Hebrew Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the American Cancer Society,
