Marieanne “Chris” Romanick was born October 7, 1931 in New York, NY, an only child of William and Katharina Binder, both of whom had recently immigrated to the US from Germany. Growing up in the Bronx, she had a childhood of many experiences and was given the nickname of “Christine” because she was told that’s what she looked like and didn’t want to be known as German during the war, although being very proud of her background and keeping close in touch with family back in Germany. She met Theodore “Ted” Romanick in 1949, who at one time lived in the same apartment building in the Bronx. They married in 1954, and had four children, Stephen, Diane, Karen and Christopher and raised them in New City, New York. She was very involved in St. Augustine parish in New City, enjoyed participating in Catholic Big Sisters and the Parish’s annual play. A true performer, and a real ham, she could sing and dance a little as well as being a very accomplished bowler! She and Ted lived there until 1988 when they moved to Dennis, MA on Cape Cod. They were very involved in Our Lady of the Cape parish and enjoyed singing in the Choir and Chris became very involved in the Ladies Guild of the parish, for which she was awarded the Marian Medal. A consummate volunteer, she has been very involved in the Lazarus group , Martha Ministry and the OLC Thrift Shop. She was very involved in many groups including Red Hats Club, Bowling and the Friends of Dennis Seniors Club as well as enjoying her cross-stitching group that traveled to New Hampshire twice a year. Her mother, Tina, passed away 18 months ago and she was predeceased by her husband Ted in 1998. She is survived by her children, Stephen and Susan Romanick of Parkland, FL; Diane and Joseph Gentempo of Portsmouth, NH; Karen and Bob Gregory of El Dorado Hills and Christopher Romanick of East Dennis, MA. She has 6 grandchildren, Kyle Romanick, Patrick, Peter and Gregory Hughes, Jenna and Ryan Gregory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster, MA. Services will be held at Doane, Beal and Ames in South Dennis on Tuesday from 4-8 pm with a funeral Mass on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Cape at 11 a.m.
