Charles Henry Smith

Charles Henry Smith, 66, lost his battle with Covid on April 18, 2021. He was born in South Weymouth on June 20,1954, to Hugh D. Smith (deceased) and Pauline (Kelley) Smith. He grew up in Holbrook, where his mother still lives, and spent his childhood summers on Cape Cod. His enduring love of both the ocean and salt-water fishing inspired him to make the transition from summers on the Cape to full-time living. It was here he met his wife, Pamela (Dunford) and they enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage. Charlie was a passionate cook, both at home and at Oliver’s Tavern in Yarmouth, where he worked for thirty-five years. When not cooking or out on his boat, you could find Charlie driving his antique car and helping out with the Cape Cod Classic Car Club or helping around the family farm. He was the sort of person who both loved to have a good time and to share his knowledge and experience with anyone who wanted to learn. He is survived by his wife Pam; his son George of Brewster; his son Scott and his wife Erica of Cotuit, and numerous grandchildren he loved to joke around with. He is also survived by his sister Elaine Pinkham and her husband Steven of Waquoit; his brother David Smith and his wife Laurelle of South Yarmouth; his brother Gerard Smith and his wife Virginia of Fall River; and his brother-in-law Ted Dunford and his wife Linda of South Dennis. A viewing will be Friday, April 23, from 10am – 12pm at Doane, Beal, and Ames. A private burial will follow at the Swan Lake Cemetery. As Charlie really took a liking to animals later in life, in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Animal Rescue League.
