Ann was the fifth child of Arthur and Mildred Silk. After graduating from Lesley College in 1984, she embarked on a long career as a first grade teacher for the Harwich School District. She was an avid sportswoman. Running was one of her greatest joys in life. In her running days she finished both the Boston Marathon and the San Francisco Marathon twice, and frequently ran in races in Falmouth, Brewster, Dennis, and Harwich. She was a diehard fan of the Celtics and of championship tennis.
Ann is remembered for her independent spirit and quick wit, her devotion to her students, her love of all things Irish, and her unflagging perseverance, grit, and courage in battling a relentless and cruel disease. She will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her sister Patricia. She is survived by her four brothers and sisters-in-law: Arthur Silk and Patricia Burns, John and Nancy Silk, Bill and Barbara Silk, and Mike and Eileen Silk; her brother-in-law Michael Kloess; her nieces and nephews Lauren, Brendan, Keegan, Billy, Riley, Caitlin, Ryan, and Caroline; and many cousins.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Ann’s life by gathering at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA, on Saturday, September 24. Visitation hours will be from noon to 2:00 pm, followed by a brief service.
