Tuan Dao, 72, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023 at Autumn Glen in Dartmouth, MA. A longtime resident of Boylston, MA, Tuan spent his later years near his loving family in Dartmouth. He was the former husband of Tu (Pham) Luongo of Florida.
Born in Vietnam to the late Chan and Trinh (Pham Le) Dao, Tuan came to the United States as a teenager in the early 1970s. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Maryland, and worked as an engineer at Raytheon for decades until his retirement in 2021.
In his spare time, Tuan enjoyed walking, traveling, playing tennis, and ballroom dancing. He danced to rock and roll music with the staff and residents of Autumn Glen two weeks before his passing, making fond memories that his friends and family will never forget. He also loved to collect art, play the piano, listen to classical music, and spend time with his beloved family.
Tuan had a fondness for nature, and he donated to various charities to protect the environment. He truly loved animals, especially his cherished dogs Benny, Ginger, and Bella. In his later years, though, his favorite role in life was being “Papa” to his dear grandchildren, Ellie and Sam. His eyes lit up when those sweet grandkids entered the room.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by his loving daughter and caretaker Christine Piva and her husband Sloan of Westport, MA; grandchildren Ellie and Samuel; longtime companion Rebecca Sampson of York, ME; three brothers: John Dao and his wife Gail, Thanh Dao, and Tin Dao (all of MD); and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Trien Dao and brother-in-law of Diem Dao and Ha Dao.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Autumn Glen and the Compassionate Care Hospice team for their love, support and outstanding care during Tuan’s time with them.
Visitation and services will be on November 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home, located at 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
