Born in Boston, a daughter of the late Irish Immigrants John and Frances (Beirne) Collins. She was the third child of seven. Mary grew up in Dorchester and Scituate, MA and attended St Mark’s School and Dorchester High School. She then married the late Francis J. O’Driscoll in 1953 and became a mother at 19 and raised 5 children. Mary later moved from Danvers, MA to Mattapoisett in 1965. She then moved to Acushnet in 1977. Mary moved and resided in Dartmouth since 1981.
Mary graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1972 with her Bachelor’s Degree and earned her Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College in 1977. Mrs. O’Driscoll was a teacher for over 40 years. She taught in the New Bedford and Acushnet Area Schools before retiring in 2005.
Mrs. O’Driscoll was an avid knitter and reader. She loved animals and spending time at the beach, especially Round Hill, and being surrounded by salt water and the sea breeze. Mary loved anything to do with Irish history and heritage. She was also very instrumental in the beginning of The Bridge Home which eventually led to the Starr Kids Program.
She is survived by her children, Kevin F. O’Driscoll and his wife Francine of Dartmouth, John D. O’Driscoll of Dartmouth, Padraic S. O’Driscoll and his companion, Sharon Hoffman; siblings, Tommy Collins of FL, Larry Collins of Walpole, John Collins of Ashville, Patricia Sullivan of Beverly, and Kathleen Richards of Marshfield; grandchildren, Emerald Oliver and her husband Shawn, Colleen Gomes and her husband Richard, James O’Driscoll and his wife Sarah, Erin O’Driscoll, Fineen O’Driscoll, Sean O’Driscoll, Sable O’Driscoll, and Morgan O’Driscoll; 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was the Mother of the late Kathleen O’Driscoll and Fineen O’Driscoll. She was the grandmother of the late Shannon O’Driscoll.
Her funeral will be held on Monday November 7, 2022 at 9 a.m. from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will also be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. at the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH.
