Lorraine B. (Lemlin) Racine, 85, of South Dartmouth, was called to heaven on April 27th, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at the Sippican Health Care Center, after a brief yet courageous period of declining health. The wife of Fernand Racine, who passed away in July 2001, the two celebrated 48 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, Lorraine was the daughter of the late William and Laura Lemlin. She was a 1944 graduate of Holy Family High School and also a graduate from Bryant College, and during her early years was active in the choir of St. Anne’s Church of New Bedford, where she would meet her future best friend and husband, Fernand.
Lorraine was employed as the accountant of the Lemlin Hardware Co., which she co-managed with her husband and sister, Lucille Walsh. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Guild and the Low Tide Yacht Club, where she enjoyed her favorite pastime of sailing with the family. In addition, she actively travelled, avidly gardened, and hosted many summertime pool parties at the house.
A deeply religious woman, she regularly attended church and prayed the rosary daily. She was passionate about charity, and donated often to both local and national causes.
She is survived by her loving children: Marc Racine and his wife AnnMarie of South Dartmouth, Ronald Racine of South Dartmouth, Diane Racine and her companion Bruce Vasconcellos of North Dartmouth, Paulette Racine and her companion Sean Kenney of Marion, and Monique Racine and her fiancé Frank Baker of New Bedford, four grandchildren: Matthew Stevens of Dartmouth, Kyle and Chad Samagaio of New Bedford, and Lance Racine of South Dartmouth, her sister, Lucille Walsh of New Bedford, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was also the sister of the late Norman Lemlin and Florence Bourdo.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass at 11 AM, Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 in Saint Mary’s Church. 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours, Monday 5-8 PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN Home of Memorial Tribute at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth.
