Katherine “Kathy” Psichopaidas, age 70 of New Bedford and Dartmouth, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 with her family by her side. Kathy was the beloved wife of the late Konstantinos “Gus” Psichopaidas to whom she shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in Asprias, Greece, Kathy was the daughter of the late Spyros and Evanthia (Avgerakis) Mantzavinos. Kathy immigrated to Canada at the age of sixteen, shortly thereafter met her prince charming and moved to Stamford, Connecticut.
Kathy and Gus set forth on an entrepreneurial and successful career in the restaurant industry. They began in Stamford, Connecticut with Glenbrook Pizza, to New Canaan House of Pizza, followed by Atlanta, Georgia and then finally planting their roots in Massachusetts. She so greatly appreciated all who dined at their many restaurants from G&S Pizza, Olympic Restaurant, A1 Restaurant, Boston Seafood, Seaside Seafood, and finally Mermaids Seafood Restaurant and Grille. Many will remember Kathy’s larger-than-life smile, captivating personality, infinite generosity, her passion for cooking, and most of all, her devotion to her family. Alongside her soulmate and best friend, Kathy and Gus retired and continued celebrating their love for one another, their adult children and three cherished grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her children, Dr. Nicholas Psichopaidas and his wife Christina of Dartmouth and Eugenia "Jen" DeAngelo and her husband Paul of Foxborough; her grandchildren Konstantinos "Dino" Psichopaidas and Cameron John and Melina Katerina DeAngelo; her brothers, Aris and George Mantzavinos; her son by choice, Alfredo Carneiro; and many nieces and nephews who love her as a “second mom.”
On behalf of Kathy and her family, they express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Thank you for two decades of exceptional care, compassion, and kindness.
