John Hamilton McCormack, 52, of Westport, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. John is survived by his partner Jim Mercer. He was the beloved son of Robert W. and Joan (Menchi) McCormack of Raynham, loving brother of Steven F. McCormack and his wife, Cynthia, of Clemons, NC, Elizabeth A. McCormack and her fiancé, Paul Mehlinger of Randolph, Andrew R. McCormack and his wife, Julie, of Easton, Katherine L. Denby and her husband, Nicholas, of Hopkington, NH and Nancy S. (McCormack) Demren and her husband, Selcuk of Raynham, uncle of Kimberly, Stephanie, Connor and Michael McCormack and Leah Denby and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A native of Raynham, he was a graduate of Bridgewater Raynham High School and attended Massachusetts College of Art. Later he was employed as an instructor and technician of the Massachusetts College of Art small metals studio where he inspired countless students with his creative talents and passion for the arts. In 2000 John won a national competition to build the memorial sculpture at City Plaza in Boston commemorating Mayor John Collins which was unveiled in 2002. John later moved to Westport and prior to owning his own business John was the Director of Cultural Activities & Special Events as well as a horticultural consultant at the Bay Club in Mattapoisett. John’s love of nature and the arts was the inspiration for Westport Art and Garden where he created natural gardens for homes along the South Coast. John considered himself a “Maker,” one who instinctively creates things and his projects utilized all his acquired skills as a landscape designer.
Visitation on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd, Dartmouth. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, 945 Main Rd, Westport.
