Janice Barber (née Medeiros), 74, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She set the bar high with her remarkable bravery and strength and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Janice was born in New Bedford on April 28, 1949 and was the daughter of the late Edward Medeiros and the late Mary (Coito) Mederios. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School in 1967 and attended Bristol Community College. She worked at Torman Chiropractor for over 20 years.
In addition to her husband James, she is survived by their two children, Tracey Collins and her husband John and Timothy Barber and his wife Dena; her sister Lorraine Payton; her grandchildren Jeffrey, Cody, Abigail, Alexander, Gianna, Jasmine, and Brooklyn; and her great-grandchildren Jayden and Rylie.
Janice was known for her selfless, kind, and generous nature. She was an avid reader, she enjoyed playing cards, and she loved the winters she and Jim shared in Florida. Janice also found joy in a night out at the theater to see a musical, her weekly bridge games, planning fun adventures with her grandchildren, and going out to dinner with the girls, but above all, she cherished spending time with her family. She made friends everywhere she went, and she held many long-lasting friendships. She will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Janice's honor can be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/give/memorials-and-dedications/donation-in-honor-of-someone.html
