Born in Dartmouth, a daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Moniz) Teachman, she had resided in New Bedford for most of her life.
Ms. Medeiros, known mostly as Dottie, had worked as a stitcher and seamstress in the local textile industry for many years until her retirement.
Dottie was a very talented sewer who made her own clothes, curtains, linens, baby clothes, wedding dresses, and Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed needlepoint and ceramics and created an extensive collection of handmade holiday decorations. She enjoyed country music, line dancing and NASCAR.
Sunbathing by her pool was one of her favorite summertime activities and her pool was always open to family and friends. Christmas Eve open house was always a memorable time at Aunt Dottie’s as well.
She is survived by two sons, Steven Durant of Westport and John A. Medeiros III and his fiancée Melissa Huddleston of Palm Coast, FL; two sisters, Nancy Vieira of New Bedford and Shirley Brophy of Beverly; a brother, Harry Teachman and his wife Andrea of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Carissa Medeiros and her fiancé Lawrence Kline, Lauren Ridlon and her husband Danny and Jonathan Durant; four great-grandchildren, Evangeline, Charley, Wesley and Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marion Hubbard.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 5-7 pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Funeral Service, Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 10am in the funeral home followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to the Humane Society & Shelter Southcoast, 31 Ventura Dr., Dartmouth, MA 02747.
