Joan (Nestor) Casilli, age 78, a lifelong resident of Somerset, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 8, 2024, with her family by her side. She was the wife of John C.V. Casilli, to whom she had been married for 58 years.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late John and Leona (Fraser) Nestor-O’Connell, she was educated at Wilbur School and Somerset High School, class of 1964. She worked at Montaup Electric for a few years before working at both the Somerset and Swansea Town Hall in the Assessor’s Office. Joan, known by her friends as “Joannie Baloney”, cherished spending time with her many women’s friend clubs and her family. She enjoyed traveling and having adventures with the bike girls, the basket weaving club girls and her friends from the knitting club.
Joan had many strong friendships and connections, and was known for whimsical cards and messages. She never forgot a birthday, occasion or important date to those close to her. She enjoyed making 1000 piece puzzles and saw Andrea Bocelli many times in Boston and New York City.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her three children, Kristen Chouinard and her husband Dean, Jay Casilli and Todd Casilli and his wife Lizette; and she adored her five grandchildren, Eleanor Chouinard, Skylar, Dominic, Matthew and Mason Casilli.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan 866 County St., Somerset, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Burial will take place in Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation on Thursday from 4 to 7PM.
