James G. Bancroft

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Arthur D. Sr. and Theresa (Murray) Bancroft, he was a graduate of the first class at Bishop Stang High School, 1963, Bridgewater State University and received his Masters in Biology from R.I. College.

Mr. Bancroft was a Teacher for the Somerset School Department for 35 years, retiring in 2002. He was also a volunteer reader at North Elementary School where he was known to the students as “Pa”.

He is survived by two sons: Doug Bancroft and wife Lisa of Somerset, Greg J. Bancroft and wife Keirsten Gustafson of Millbury, MA, two brothers: Robert C. Bancroft of Barnstable and John Bancroft of Dartmouth, one grandson: Shaun Bancroft, and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Matthew Bancroft, and brother of the late Arthur D. Jr., William, Paul, Joseph Richard and David Bancroft.

His funeral will be held Monday August 4, 2014 at 9 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St., Somerset with a funeral mass at 10:30 AM in St Bernard’s Church, 30 So. Main St., Assonet. Visiting hours Sunday from 4-8 PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
