It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Detective Brian Cordeiro of the Fall River Police Department. Detective Cordeiro, 54, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024 in Rhode Island Hospital after an accident. He was the beloved son of the late Beverly A. (LeBrun) Lyne and the late Daniel Cordeiro.
Detective Cordeiro dedicated 25 years of his life to serving the community as a member of the Major Crimes Division in the Fall River PD. His commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of the community was unwavering. Brian was a Sergeant in the RI National Guard over 20 years. He was a Military Police Officer, bravely serving in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003-2004 and served a tour of duty at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in 2009-2010.
A proud graduate of Somerset High School in 1989, Brian's passion for law enforcement and public service was evident throughout his illustrious career. His exemplary service was recognized with several citations and commendations, culminating in being named the Office of the Year in 2014 and in 2009, he was awarded the” Above and Beyond for Children Award” from the Children Advocacy Center for his dedication and support.
Brian will be remembered not only for his professional dedication but also for his vibrant personality. He was known for his sense of humor, his ability to light up any room, and his generous spirit. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to go above and beyond to help those in need, often giving the shirt off his back to support others.
He leaves behind a legacy of courage, integrity, and compassion that will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Detective Cordeiro will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the community he served with such distinction.
Brian was a member of the Fall River Police Relief Association, Massachusetts Police Association, Quartermaster at the VFW in Tiverton, member of the Elks in Fall River, a Mason and a proud Patriots Season Ticket holder.
He is survived by his brother Daniel Cordeiro of Cape Coral, FL; Aunt and Uncle Vivian and Larry Amaral; a step brother Craig Lyne and his wife Karla of New Bedford; a step sister Kim Lyne and Anne Dunham; nephews Daniel and Shayne Cordeiro, Cory and Tyler Lyne and considered “Uncle” to many more. Brian was also survived by many friends including Gary Vasconcellos and his wife Laurie and Steve Crowley and his wife Michelle.
His Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 3 to 7pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10am in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Burial with Military Honors will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Somerset.
