David Woodard, 85, of Arlington, died October 21, 2011, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
David was born in 1925 in Tacoma to Bertha and William Woodard. Joining the Navy during WWII at age 17, he became a highly decorated carrier pilot and squadron leader. He was an inspiring speaker and writer during his 32 years of service, and was honored for heroism and leadership.
Soon after retiring, he completed his history degree at the UW. He enjoyed his later years at the Arlington Gleneagle Golf Course -golfing, playing bridge and poker, and traveling with dear friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosalie (Hoar); children, Jeffrey, Betsy (Kipper), and Wendy; sister, Barbara Simonson; brother, Bill; and five grandchildren. Predeceased by his daughter Andrea.
Military "Honors" Ceremony on Tuesday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m., Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA. A reception will follow the outdoor service at the Meridian Valley Country Club , 24830 136th Ave SE, Kent, WA.
Please note: The military service will start promptly at 1:15 pm and will end by 1:45 pm. We will all meet at the entrance to the National Cemetery by 1:00 pm and the guards direct us on where to line up in our cars to follow the hearse into the Cemetery.
