She is much loved, and survived by her children, Michael Van Mansfeld, Pam Webb and husband, Dario Giordanelli as well as many nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren, Vanessa De La Torre and Michaela Cronic. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Van Mansfeld, her husband, Fred Cowart, her parents, Ernest F. Hornesby, LTC (Ret. US Army) and Jessie Z. Hornesby, and sisters, Mary Carolyn Boyd, Jackie Chambers and Patricia Bryant.
Jewel was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She raised 3 children on her own, encouraging them to be honest, respectful and independent.
She worked for Rich’s Department Store nights and weekends for 17 years, and retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company in 1995 after 27 years providing outstanding service to their customers.
She enjoyed keeping up with family, working in anything needle and thread, collecting dolls and figurines, watching old black and white movies, and shopping. Jewel was inwardly spiritual, brutally honest, and had a kind soul. She will be forever in our hearts.
