Elaine was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on August 4, 1927. The youngest of three children, she spent her childhood and youth in Kentucky, graduating from Bowling Green High School and Bowling Green Business University. She married Mac, the love of her life, in 1946, and they moved to Mobile, Alabama.
After several years in Mobile, Elaine, Mac, and their young family moved to Huntsville, Alabama, for Mac to take a job with the space industry. In Huntsville for most of her life, Elaine was proud to be a member of Weatherly Heights Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and Mac loved to play golf and enjoyed playing courses throughout the southeast. They were thrilled to have had the opportunity to attend The Masters on one occasion.
Elaine moved to Grayson, Georgia in 2015 to live with her son and daughter-in-law, and she was always excited to make new friends. She joined First Baptist Church of Grayson where she was active in her Sunday School Class. She also represented her church on the Board of Directors of the local food bank, the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Henrietta Howard, husband Maurice “Mac” McKenzie, brother, Fred Howard, sister, Mary Siebert Culp, and granddaughter, Hope McKenzie. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maurine and Hal Avery, son and daughter-in-law William “Willie” and Susan McKenzie, grandson Zak Avery and his wife Amanda and their daughter Caroline, and granddaughter Caitlin “CJ” Keener and her husband David, and numerous extended family members.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Elaine McKenzie to the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry, 55 Grayson Industrial Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017.
