Carrie Locklear Berry, 48, died peacefully at her home in Loganville, GA. Carrie brought sunshine into the world around her. She loved Diana and her family and friends immensely. Carrie fulfilled her true passion when she obtained her teaching degree from Kennesaw State University. She devoted her life to working with exceptional children for 19 years at Dekalb County G-NETS, at Shadow Rock Center and Eagle Wood Academy as a Paraprofessional and then later as a teacher. The lifelong friendships she made with coworkers were so meaningful to her. The compassion Carrie felt for her students was unsurpassed, even as she faced numerous medical challenges. At many times, her dedication to her students got her out of the hospital and back in the classroom. Three of her favorite things were cheering on the Bulldogs, fishing, and going camping. Give her a knife and a firestarter and she was the proverbial Happy Camper.
Carrie will always be remembered by those who loved her for her sharp wit and playful sense of humor. Even at her lowest points healthwise, she was able to entertain all of her doctors and nurses just to try and brighten their day.
Carrie is survived by her wife, Diana Stafford, her daughter and son in law Stefanie "Big Head" and Lee Townley, her parents Gail and Jim Hamrick, sisters Abby Hamrick, Marlaina Hamrick (Curt) and Erica Duff (John), and Merri King and Margaret "Gritters" Koch who Carrie lovingly referred to as "The Moms". She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A true blessing in Carrie's life was meeting and connecting with many members of her paternal birth family.
She will also be greatly missed by her awesome, adoring, and loving dog Spartan.
A visitation for Carrie will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eternal Hills Funeral Home and Cremation, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039.
