William O Libby Jr

1952-2014

North Anson- William “Bill” O. Libby Jr., 61, of North Anson, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Feb. 23, 2014 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was born in Skowhegan, ME on October 6, 1952, the son of William O. & Dolline (Perkins) Libby Sr.

Bill graduated from Madison Area High School and then served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp. He then continued his education at the University of Maine at Farmington graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Bill worked for SD Warren (Sappi) for 20 years before retiring in 2002.

On Valentine’s Day in 1993, Bill married the love-of-his-life, Tina. He was a great family man and enjoyed taking family trips around the country. He loved many outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. One of his favorite pastimes was boating with his family, his wife, 2 step-children Casey and Bill, along with their beloved dog Scully. They would explore different islands off the coast of Maine. He loved going on Corvette and motorcycle rides with his wife and dog. They would spend their time exploring all the covered bridges in Maine and New Hampshire. He also loved motorcycle rides with friends, especially his step-son Billy and step-son-in-law, Jonathan.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Sherry.

He is survived by his wife Tina of 21 years of North Anson, step-daughter, Casey Haynes and her husband Jonathan of Anson, step- son, Bill Shepherd and his wife Ashley of Wayne, NJ, one grandson, Jacob, three granddaughters, Kaylee, Lydia, and Layla, his siblings, Betty Black and her husband Mike of Anson, Betsey Stevens and her husband Donald of Skowhegan, David Libby and his wife Ila of Skowhegan, Bob Libby of Augusta, Mike Libby and his wife Kelley of Stetson, Terry Libby of Skowhegan, and Tim Libby and his wife Cheryl of RI, along with many nieces and nephews.

Bill was loved by many and will be missed by his family and dear friends, Sally Cowette and Clarence Poissonnier.

Visiting hours will be held Sat. March 1st from 6-8 PM at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Funeral ceremony will be held Sunday, March 2nd at 2PM at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 162 Old Point Ave., Madison with Rev. Timothy Haynes officiating.
