SKOWHEGAN- Olive passed away peacefully at Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan on Sunday, February 13. She spent her long, beautiful life devoted both to her strong Catholic faith and to her family.
Olive graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1942. Other than raising six children, she worked as a waitress, a caregiver, and a shoe worker. She enjoyed her volunteer work as the sacristan at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church for several years and also made deliveries for the Meals on Wheels program. In addition, for years she enjoyed visiting residents at Cedar Ridge Center and did this up into her 90’s.
Her pastimes included family visits, painting landscapes, and spending time at Calvary Cemetery sitting with lost loved ones and making sure each always had at least one beautiful flower arrangement.
Olive was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Arthur C Estes; her son, Vincent P Estes of Raymond, NH; and her daughter, Carole A Clement of Skowhegan. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Andrew (Andy) Arsenault, Agnew (Aggie) Arsenault, Robert (Bob) Arsenault, Wilfred (Blackie) Arsenault and Francis (Frenchie) Arsenault, all of Skowhegan; and her sisters Susan (Arsenault) Daigle of Illinois, and Betty (Arsenault) Wescott of California and Winslow, Maine. She is survived by her children, Daniel Estes and wife Sharon of Skowhegan, Steve Estes and wife Pamela of Plaistow, NH, Ellen Canipe and her husband Charles of Stanley, NC, Diane Parola and her husband John of Dexter, ME, her son-in-law, Russell Clement of Skowhegan, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Estes of Raymond, NH. She is also survived by her brother Rollins (Rusty) Arsenault, and her sister-in-laws Lorraine Arsenault and Laura Arsenault, all of Skowhegan. Also, grandchildren Joel Clement of Skowhegan, Tanya Pomelow of Fairfield, Danielle Bannister of Searsmont, Kristen Sola of Plaistow, NH, Heather Fournier of Sandown, NH, Michelle Boutot of Derry, NH, Tesha Estes of Raymond, NH, Michael Canipe of Stanley, NC, Kendra Canipe of Kannapolis, NC, and Aaron Parola of Austin, TX, along with several great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Catholic Charities Maine for providing caregiver assistance during her last few months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday March 12 at 10 am at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, 273 Water St. in Skowhegan. At the request of the family, masks are requested. Burial will be in the spring of 2022.
