Jim was born on May 23, 1950 in Jersey City, NJ to James and Helen Farley.
Jim graduated from Brick Town High School in New Jersey and then joined the Marines in 1969. There he spent two years of active duty and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Following the Marines, Jim completed an education program from Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ and began his career in Respiratory Therapy. Jim worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 45 years across hospitals in New Jersey and in Maine at Waterville Osteopathic Hospital (Northern Light Inland Hospital) and Redington Fairview General Hospital (RFGH). He went on to get an Associate Degree at Kennebec Valley Technical College in 1999, becoming a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Jim retired from RFGH in 2012 as the Respiratory Therapy Department Manager. Many recognized Jim’s dedication, passion and sensitivity for patients with pulmonary disease. Jim proudly started the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at RFGH and was also awarded the RFGH "Caregiver of the Year" in 2006. After his retirement as manager Jim continued to work part-time at RFGH until 2016.
Early in his career, Jim met the love of his life, Ginny. They went on to marry in 1977 in Toms River, NJ and spent 45 wonderful years together. In 1981, Jim and Ginny moved to Maine to raise their family, as the proud parents of Ryan and Michele. Jim cherished every moment being their Dad which he always said "went by way too fast."
Jim’s two loves were his family and sailing. Growing up on the Jersey shore led to his passion for the ocean and boating. He spent time living on a houseboat and enjoyed boating all along the Jersey coast. Once moving to Maine, Jim learned to sail and spent much of his summers with wife Ginny sailing the coast of Maine. Jim returned to the Jersey Shore every year for a treasured family "beach week" vacation, which was the highlight of his year. Each summer this brought lots of laughter, fun adventures and priceless memories. Jim was a loving father to his children, Ryan and Michele and a proud “Papou” to his four grandchildren, Konnor, Mason, Julia and Sara.
Jim is predeceased by his father, James Farley, his mother, Helen Farley and brother, Tim Farley. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ginny Farley of Skowhegan, his son Ryan Farley and wife Rachel Maxwell of Orleans, VT, his daughter Michele Federschneider (Farley) and husband Adam of Arlington, MA, his beloved grandchildren, Konnor and Mason Farley, Julia and Sara Federschneider, his brother Kevin Farley and wife Janice of Easton, PA and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Jim will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, sensitivity and all the love he gave to his family.
