Grace graduated from Lisbon Falls High School, Lisbon Falls, ME class of 1934 and Bates College, Lewiston, ME class of 1938. She taught high school for several years, first in Norway, ME and then in Skowhegan, ME. In 1942, Grace married S. Kirby Hight of Skowhegan where they have lived since then.
Always active in the community, Grace was a long-time member of the Skowhegan School Board, serving for almost 15 years. She believed that everyone deserved a good education, and as a school board member, she played a significant role in developing educational policy and in the building of the new high school in 1971. For 40 years, she managed three family auto parts stores. She also loved golf and as a member of Lakewood Golf Club, she played in many leagues and tournaments. Grace is a member of the Federated Church in Skowhegan, Maine.
Grace loved raising her family and spent many hours at her three children’s and grandchildrens’ athletic activities and other events. In recent years, she especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, meeting their husbands, wives and significant others, and hearing about all their adventures. She felt blessed to be a great-grandmother and to have the opportunity to hold her three great-grandsons.
