Gladys Wilder Smart, 90, of Norridgewock, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, January 21, 2019 in Waterville, Maine.
She was born December 21, 1928 in Norridgewock, Maine, the daughter of Ostie Sr. and Evelyn (Whipple) Wilder.
She graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1947; then she graduated from X-ray Technician College in Boston, MA in the class of 1948. Gladys worked at Redington-Fairview General Hospital as supervisor of the X-ray department for many years.
She loved going for walks, spending her winters on the boat in Florida, playing cribbage, reading novels, listening to music, and loved to have it her way. She also enjoyed spending her summers in Norridgewock where she loved spending time with her family, especially watching her two grandsons grow up.
She is survived by: her son Wayne and his wife Kathleen of Norridgewock; her grandchildren Nathan Libby and his wife Andrea of Lewiston and Matthew Libby and his wife Brooke of Newport; one great-grandson Jude Libby and one great-grandson on the way; her brother Robert Wilder and his wife Beverly of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by: her parents; her son Eric Libby; her first husband Lloyd Libby Jr.; her second husband Nelson Smart Sr.; her brothers Ostie Wilder Jr., Richard Wilder and Phillip Wilder; and her sister June Martin.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 36 River Rd., Norridgewock, Maine.
Spring burial will be held at the Sunsetview Cemetery in Norridgewock, Maine.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Park Residences for the wonderful care that Gladys received throughout her stay and a special thanks to the staff of Beacon Hospice and Redington Medical Associates in Norridgewock for their wonderful care.
