Victor Edward Ssemwogerere Njuki was born on the 29th of September 1959 to civil engineer Caxton Simei Njuki and homemaker Ruth Wanyana. He is the youngest of five siblings, Caroline Nambi, Frank Katende, Stella Nabatanzi, and Ezra Tebuseke. As a child, Victor was enrolled in The Aga Khan Primary School, then Budo Junior School in Kampala, Uganda. He reconnected with his former schoolmates prior to his diagnosis and chatted with them regularly on WhatsApp. As a teenager, he attended Namasagali College in Uganda’s Kamuli District. He emigrated to Nairobi, Kenya, as a student at Nairobi High School. It was there where he discovered his love of music (and Karate) as a member of seven piece R&B and soul band, The Mimics. In this band, Victor honed his perfect pitch while learning bass guitar and piano. Victor could hear and play almost any song.
In 1979, Victor emigrated, as a refugee, to the United States of America. He was swept up by the high speed, high life of a typical American youth. People were attracted to him like a moth to a flame and they stuck around. His humor, 1000-watt smile, and fearless nature drew others in. He was a member of the Potomac Peddlers Club and enjoyed activities such as sailing, skiing, skydiving, jet skiing, hiking and weight training.
He earned his Associate in Business Administration from Strayer College, Washington, D.C. in 1981 and a Programming Certificate from Yorktowne Business Institute in 1985. By the end of the nineties, he had also studied at the Computer Learning Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
Eventually,Victor thought it time to leave the carefree-bachelor life behind and in 2001 married Evelyne Kiganda becoming a stepfather to Markus Senkeeto and learned what it really meant to be a father, provider, and partner. In 2001, he saw the birth of his first born daughter Wanyana Ruth followed by his youngest, Nankyinga Victoria in 2006. His love of adventure, SciFi, music, and quiet solitude lives on in them.
Over thirty years, Victor built a community of driven coworkers and employees whom he trusted and respected. They admired his steadfast dedication to his family and friends throughout his career as a Reservation and Distribution manager, and later, Area Manager at NextCar Rental, formerly known as Budget Rent-A-Car.
As President and member of the Maryland sportbike chapter of Road Wolves, Victor enjoyed pack rides up and down the east coast, community service projects, cookouts, and general tomfoolery with his packmates. After unwinding from a long day, he could be found following a P90X exercise video, watching Ancient Aliens on the History channel, flying his model airplanes (later upgrading to drones), or playing his favorite songs on his Yamaha keyboard.
Music was in every corner of Victor and Evelyne’s home. Their door was open for all who needed a shoulder to cry on, a joke to lift their spirits, or a peaceful place to find their center. Even in the throes of illness, Victor never thought twice about having his nieces and nephews over for dinner or a weeklong slumber party. To his eldest daughter, he shared that since his father’s passing, he sought to always do things the right way. Victor’s way was always quiet and full of love.
On the 13th of March 2024, Victor peacefully passed away at Holy Cross Hospital surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, daughters, stepson, mother, siblings, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, and cousins all around the world.
