Susan Gallup Klus (Age 59) On June 23, 2014, Susan Gallup Klus of Silver Spring, Maryland, beloved wife of Steven Klus. Devoted mother of Jeremiah. Dear daughter of G. Benjamin Gallup and Pauline M. Gallup (deceased). Loving sister of Elizabeth G. Warner and James B. Gallup. Sue was born in Washington, DC, and lived as a child overseas as her father worked in Iceland, Spain, and Bermuda. Her family returned to live in the United States in 1969, and she graduated from Laurel High School in 1973 and the University of Maryland in 1977. From 1982 to 1996, Sue worked as a publications coordinator, writer, editor, and manager at Bendix Field Engineering Corporation in Columbia, MD, the company where her father had worked. It was there that she met her husband, whom she married in 1990. Sue developed expertise in managing projects that helped Bendix win contracts with the Federal Government. In 1996, she began a career as an independent consultant, along with her husband, using her expertise in the service of many clients in the Federal Government contracting community. Her clients knew her as someone with expert management skills, writing talent, and ability to focus on the task at hand, as well as someone who was of good cheer and loved working hard. Sue’s enjoyment of her career was matched by her love for her family, especially her son. Sue loved gardening, cooking, and music and was an avid reader of all kinds of books from early childhood. She cherished her husband and son and loved nothing better than spending free time with her family and close friends, who knew her as an engaged listener, informed conversationalist, and empathetic friend. She loved spending time with her parents and when her mother suffered through a long illness, she devoted herself to taking care of her. Sue delighted in observing the behavior of cats, hawks, foxes, and songbirds. The coast of Maine was special to her, and she loved vacationing there with her husband and parents. When she had the time, Sue also loved to sew, paint, and draw. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 3 pm at Christ Congregational Church, 9525 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20901, with a gathering of family and friends afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sue’s name to Capital Area Food Bank, 4900 Puerto Rico Ave NE, Washington, DC 20017.
