Robert Lee (Bob) Milner, 78, of Silver Spring, MD passed away on November 9, 2016 after succumbing to injuries from a car accident in Wilmington, DE. He was born in Detroit, MI, on December 31, 1937, son of the late Robert James and Bess (Gregway) Milner. He is survived by his loving spouse, Carole (Taylor) Milner, and his four children, Rachel, Jeffrey (sp. Myra), Dina, and Brian (sp. Connie). He is also survived by his grandchildren Mikki (sp. Hector), Carolina (sp. Akmal), Linda (sp. Garth), Chelsea (sp. Quitin), RJ, Jacob, Aynalem, Xiajie, four great grandchildren, foster son John, and his late granddaughter Alissa. He was commissioned at the United States Naval Academy with the class of 1959. He served on the USS MASSEY and USS FREEMONT. After serving four years in the Navy, Bob resigned his commission as a Lieutenant. He then pursued a career in electrical engineering working for 37 years at Naval Sea System Commands (NAVSEA). The Department of the Navy awarded him a Civilian Meritorious Service Award in 2001 for helping 324 people find jobs after being displaced by Naval Bases closures. In 2006, Bob retired from NAVSEA. Bob’s devotion to the poor and the poor in spirit was a life-long commitment. He founded a volunteer organization called ‘The Stouthearted Men’ which serves the homeless men of Montgomery County at the Carroll House Men’s Shelter and Fort Myers Shelter. Based on his vision, the organization has grown and will continue to serve the homeless community. Bob was also a faithful member to the Montgomery County Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 3pm at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home located at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20904. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bob Milner to Carroll House Men’s Shelter, an Interfaith Works program.
