Richard Wayne Lutes Sr., age 76, of Burtonsville, Maryland entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Richard was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 9th, 1946 to Allie and Willie Lutes. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorma, and his children Cheryl Verostek (John) and Richard Lutes, Jr. (Michelle); granddaughters, Victoria and Alexandra Yetley; his brother Toby and sister Joanne, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Christine, Don, Bill, Jeri, Kay and Rita.
Rick Sr. started his career in the U.S. Navy as a radioman. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis while stationed in Puerto Rico. After leaving the Navy, he spent four years working for Western Union. It was during this timeframe that he married Dorma. The remainder of his career encompassed several different roles within the HVAC field. He was mechanically inclined and could tackle any project in which he set his mind; including building a home from the ground up for his family. Rick Sr. was a mentor to his son teaching him many trades that have enriched his life and career.
He had many hobbies and enjoyed camping. "Papa" loved spending time with his granddaughters including outdoor activities such as nature walks and playing in the creek nearby. He was artistic and completed several water paintings in his young adulthood, in later years enjoyed candle making and woodworking.
