John Townsend Bennett, Jr. (known to most of his friends and family as Jack) passed away on September 9, 2021. He was 81. The youngest child of John Sr. and Dagny, John was born and spent his childhood in Setauket, New York. Upon graduating high school, he turned down an opportunity to join a minor-league affiliate of his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers (as a left-handed pitcher) to attend Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. There, he met his future wife, Martha Chase (deceased, 1980), and obtained an engineering degree.
John and Martha moved to Bethesda in 1961, and he lived the majority of his life in Montgomery County (mostly in Olney and Brookeville). During his career, John founded two biomedical equipment companies, and in his spare time, he loved history (especially World War II) and enjoyed birdwatching & baseball.
He is survived by his children Steven (Tracy), Thomas, John (Andrea), and Michael; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
There will not be a public memorial service.
