Anna J. Le Cren

Anna Josephine Le Cren, of Silver Spring, MD (Riderwood Retirement Village), born in Gourin, France, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the age of 94. The daughter of the late Isadore Le Cren and Catherine (nee Pochat) Le Cren, she married Jean Le Cren in 1949 in Gourin, France. She is survived by a son, Joseph Le Cren and daughter-in-law Pamela E. (nee Fischer) Le Cren of Burtonsville, MD and a grandson, John M. Le Cren (Katelynn Lemons) of Manassas, VA.

Anna and her husband Jean went to Canada shortly after the end of World War II having lived through the German occupation of France. Both she and Jean took whatever work they could find as they had come to Canada with very little money and did not even have appropriate clothing for the winters in Canada. They worked very hard to make a life for themselves. Jean worked construction in the harsh winters of Pine Falls, Manitoba while Anne worked in the kitchens preparing meals for the workers. Their son Joseph was born in Pine Falls.

They subsequently moved to Toronto, Canada and then in 1954 immigrated to the United States where they settled in New Jersey and eventually became U.S. citizens. In addition to caring for her family, Anna spent her working career in the U.S. in the food processing industry. When their grandson was two years old, she and Jean retired and moved to Maryland to take up the challenge of caring for their grandson while his parents went to work. She was an accomplished cook (made the most wonderful french fries and french galettes), gardner and knitter. Having come from a hearty French farming tradition, she loved to work in the garden and canning vegetables. She was devoted to her family and friends and was a devoted, life long Catholic.
