Sylvia Ann Tate was born April 7, 1935 in Abilene, TX. Her parents were G.K. (Don) and Sally McGee Tate. She went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in Shreveport, LA. Sylvia was a 1952 graduate of Pecos High School in Pecos, TX. She married her first husband, Thomas Franklin “Sonny” Langham. To this union were born three children, Rick, Vangee and Shauna.
Sylvia attended Odessa College, majoring in music and performing in many musicals. The Odessa College Choir produced two albums in which she was a soloist on both. She later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where she graduated with honors in Education and Music Theory. She began teaching music in the elementary school in numerous towns in TX such as Odessa and Brownfield later moving to LA and teaching at North Highlands Elementary. She retired from the Caddo Parish School Board with over ten years of dedication.
Sylvia married Rex, July 23, 1980, in Shreveport. Over the next 36 years they had together, they traveled extensively and built their dream home on Cross Lake. Sylvia enjoyed clogging. She performed at many malls and functions throughout the Shreveport Bossier Area. Rex and Sylvia enjoyed square dancing. She was an avid gardener, enjoying years of maintaining their property. They loved to sit on their patio and admire the beauty of the home they built and enjoyed for so many years. They both enjoyed traveling and vacationing in their fifth wheel. Sylvia enjoyed sailing and would take her sail boat out on Cross Lake.
Sylvia and Rex had been members of Blanchard Baptist Church for many years. Sylvia was involved in mission ministry helping others, serving her church and taking care of friends and people in need. Sylvia and Rex helped numerous people through personal recovery together. That good work was very close to her heart. Her love of music continued in her church where she was the senior choir director.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Rex Crider Bond; daughter, Vangee Dugger Moore; her parents, G.K. (Don) and Sally McGee Tate and first husband, Thomas Franklin "Sonny" Langham. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Rick Langham and wife Patti of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Shauna Aguirre and husband Richard of Shreveport, LA; step-daughter, Ellen Ruth Vanderveer; step-son, Rex Keith Bond; grandchildren, Heidi Sanders and husband Matt, Jerad Russell and wife Jessica, Scott Langham, Jay Langham and wife Sarah, Matt Langham and Chad Dugger and wife Kaci; step-grandchildren, Amy and Annie Vanderveer; great grandchildren, Jordyn Glenn, Lleyton Sanders, Jacelyn Russell, Jaedyn Russell, Jamesyn Russell, Bryce Langham, Braylin Langham, Masyn Langham, Ryan Don Dugger, and Ann Elizabeth Dugger; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Angie Ellis, Ashley Valentine, the Staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore and the Staff of Life Path Hospice for the compassion and care they showed to Sylvia and her family.
A service celebrating the life of Sylvia Tate Bond will be conducted Monday, June 7, 2021, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Blanchard. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Sauls. Interment will be in Clyde, TX at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Blanchard Mission Ministry Fund.
