Mary "Polly" Linda (Powell) Fain

Mary "Polly" Linda (Powell) Fain, age 80, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024. She was born May 28, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi. Her family travelled to Shreveport by train in 1949 so her father could start a new career. She quickly became a beloved member of the community.

Polly was known for her warm, vibrant spirit and her deep commitment to helping others. Her generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to those around her.

A visitation to celebrate Polly's life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, located at 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A service of remembrance will be led by the Rev. Margaret Ayers at 5:00 PM.

Polly loved to sing and contributed her lovely voice to The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, the Shreveport Opera and to many church choirs in the area. She was especially fond of her choir families who remember her as loving, caring, tender hearted, devoted and spiritual.

Polly was also active in the animal rescue community as she fostered many pets that others had abandoned. She adopted and cared for numerous rescue dogs from Carley’s Angels. In addition, she was a leader in the feral cat community. She trapped, neutered & released every feral in her colonies that she could. All at her own expense. Whether adopted or feral Polly’s animals received the most love and best veterinary care possible. She was a lover of nature and all creatures great and small.

Rather than good bye, let us say to Polly “Until we meet again”. We know she will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge greeting each and every newcomer. Polly's memory will be cherished by her family and friends, both two and four legged. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Polly’s honor to a charity of your choice that supports rescue animals, community service or helps those in need.
