Jimmie proudly served in the United States Army from 1957-1963. After his service to his country he worked as a computer programmer for 40 years.
Jimmie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He attended Summer Grove Baptist Church for 50 years and was a member of the New Beginnings Sunday School Class. He loved God and served Him faithfully. Jimmie was an avid fisherman and loved cheering on his LSU Tigers. He loved his family dearly, especially watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Jimmie was actively involved in all of their activities. To know Jimmie was to love him. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best and loved him most.
He was preceded in death by his parents Garrison Curtis and Opal Obera Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Marilynne; daughters Pam Walker, Lisa Ashworth and husband Chris; sister Frances Jennings; grandchildren Lauren Walker, Kaylee Walker, Ty Ashworth, Christian Ashworth and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Jimmie will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the chapel at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Roger Gill officiating. Interment will be in Northwest LA Veteran Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Road, Keithville, Louisiana 71047 at 1:00 PM. Honoring the family as active pallbearers will be Onnie Rambin, Tom Foster, Dennis Cooley, Chris Ashworth, Ty Ashworth, Christian Ashworth, and Harry Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Farmer and Jerry Dunn.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Laurie Grier, Dr. Jonathan Eaton and the entire MICU nursing staff at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission or Wounded Warrior Project.
