After finishing school, Janette went to work at the Greyhound Bus Station Cafe in Houston where she met the love of her life, Melton Sharp. On April 3, 1951 they married and began their family in Texas. They had three daughters Sherryl, Deana, and Carol.
In 1969, the family moved to Denham Springs, Louisiana. Janette went to work as a dental assistant for Dr. Milton D. Hughes, DDS for many years. While in Denham Springs, she had many wonderful friends. She was a member of Amite Baptist Church. As a ministry to the new members, the Sharp’s hosted many new member suppers in their home over the years.
After retiring, Janette and Melton moved to Shreveport. They joined Ellerbe Baptist Church and met many more friends there.
Janette had a lifelong love of family, friends, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed sharing her favorite recipes with others and giving cuttings from her flower garden to her friends.
Janette is preceded in death by her parents Coley and Pearl Cater; two daughters Carol Sharp and Sherryl Sharp Bryant; her brother Tommy Cater and sisters Marie Cater and Wilma Jamail.
Janette is survived by her husband of 72 years, Melton Sharp; daughter Deana Neely (Patrick); grandchildren Jennifer Phillips, James Phillips (Heidi), Julie Phillips; son in law Robert Bryant; 10 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Sue Bailey; several nieces and nephews.
At the time she went to be with Jesus, she was surrounded by her family.
Service will be on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Centuries Cemetery on Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana.
