SHREVEPORT, LA - Celebration of Life services for Gus Velasco, Jr., 86, will be held at 11:00 am, February 1, 2010 at St. Mary of the Pines, Shreveport, Louisiana with Father's Clayton and Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Park West Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana under the direction of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, Louisiana.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation Sunday, January 31, 2010 from the hours of 5-8 pm at Centuries with a vigil at 7:00 pm.
Mr. Gus Velasco was born Tarandacua, Gto, Mexico to the late Gus Velasco, Sr. and Maria Gonzales Velasco and was called home January 26, 2010 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Velasco supported his grateful nation serving in both the Navy and US Army. While serving in the US Army Mr. Velasco was an engineer building and bombing bridges during WWII. Mr. Velasco managed several restaurants in our local area such as The Plaza, Madison Park, and helped get El Chico's off the ground with success. Mr. Velasco enjoyed his career as a machinist in the oil industry most. Mr. Velasco will be remembered most by his family as an honest man, faithful husband, loving father, doting grandfather, caring sibling, and a dedicated friend to all who knew him.
Mr. Velasco was preceded in death by his parents; one son; Carl Ray Velasco, and a brother; Robert Velasco. Left to cherish his memory and tell his stories will be his beloved wife of sixty years; Mrs. Otila Flores Velasco, two daughters: Mary Frances Velasco, and Angelica Velasco Traas and husband Robert Michael, one son; Daniel Robert Velasco, one sister; Alice Velasco Morin, two grandchildren; Ian Andrew Traas, and Charlotte M. Traas, numerous step-brothers and step-sisters, along with a host of extended relatives and many faithful friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the 2nd floor of Highland Hospital, and Father Clayton for the care and compassion shown Mr. Velasco in his time of need. Centuries Memorial
