Charles Hartley Worley

Charles Hartley Worley, Jr., age 89, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021. He was born on November 4, 1931, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Charles Hartley Worley, Sr. and Mattie Lou Greer Worley.

Charles served as a Minister of Music for 68 years. He established outstanding music programs at several churches including Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and Audubon Park Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. His choirs were invited to sing throughout the United States, as well as Switzerland, England, Germany, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia, where the choir sang for the American Ambassador’s Fourth of July party, attended by officials from all over Europe. He directed choral clinics throughout the south and southwest and conducted many major choral works with orchestra. Charles opened the doors of the hearts of many through music and was loved and respected by those who sang with him.

He was an avid sports fan, and an unwavering supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. During his time at Byrd High School, he lettered in four sports and was a starting player on the 1949 Louisiana state champion football team. Because of his talents as a kicker, the Shreveport Times sports writers dubbed him “The Golden Toe.”

Charles is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Doris Nell Penny Worley. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Gay Cobb Worley; son, Charles (Chas) Hartley Worley III & wife Teresa of Lubbock, TX; stepdaughter Audrey Robinson & husband Braden of Shreveport, LA; sisters, Mary Dell Porter of Frisco, TX; Martha Lou Kirkpatrick & husband Eugene (Gene) of Tyler, TX; Nancy Claire Strobo & husband Wayne of Lewisville, TX; brother-in-law John E. Cobb & wife Ginger of Tyler, TX; granddaughters Kathryn Bloom & husband Curtis of Lubbock, TX; Liz Robinson and husband Cody of Albuquerque, NM; great granddaughters Hartley Hutcheson, Paisley Bloom, Ava Robinson; and nieces and nephews Cindy Porter, Brian Porter, Kennedy Lovette, and Gabe Kirkpatrick.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, LA. A virtual service will be streamed on the Centuries’ website at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/shreveport-la/charles-worley-10010348, and a larger celebration of life will be held in Dallas at a future date.
