Shreveport, LA- Graveside services to celebrate the life of Betty Thornton Davis, 84, of Shreveport, LA will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at New Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, LA. Officiating will be Brother Joe Asbell, Pastor of New Providence Primitive Baptist Church. Services will be under the direction of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home of Shreveport, LA.
Mrs. Davis was born December 22, 1932 in Ringgold, LA, to the late Solomon Zebedee Thornton and Cumi Graham Thornton. She married Jimmie H. Davis on March 4, 1950. They definitely shared the love of a lifetime together and celebrated 67 years of marriage on March 4, 2017. She will be remembered for her amazing culinary skills, always providing wonderful meals for family and friends. She never passed up the opportunity to provide a feast, even on their many camping trips all over the country with their longtime dear friends Jack and Mary Cutrer of Baton Rouge, LA.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Nadine Powell of Shreveport, LA, Alphia Hammett of Ringgold, LA, Lou Ella Odom of El Paso, TX and Evie Edwards of Jamestown, LA, and her two brothers, Paul Thornton of Callahan, FL and Bay Thornton of Ringgold, LA.
Left to cherish her in loving memory are her husband, Jimmie H. Davis and daughter, Susan D. Smelley and husband David of Shreveport, LA; three grandchildren, Ryan Smelley, Heather Smelley Rachal, and husband John, and Christopher Smelley and wife, Ashley; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Pierce and Davis Rachal and Madalyn and Christian Smelley, along with a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Smelley, Christopher Smelley, John Rachal and her nephew Buddy Edwards.
The Davis family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Robert Hernandez, her longtime personal caregiver and friend, the staff at The Oaks, Brookdale and Life Path Hospice, Tristy Sullivan and faithful sitters Maxine Frazer, Felicia Taylor, and Andrea Turk and for all the support and prayers from family and friends during this difficult time. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Providence Primitive Baptist Church in Ringgold, LA or to the charity of the donors choice.
