Alberta Rhodes Bollinger

Alberta Rhodes Bollinger was born to Thomas and Nolia Blanchard Rhodes in Montegut on March 18, 1927. Her earthly journey was completed on July 12, 2022. Alberta and her husband, Earl, lived most of their lives in Houma then relocated to Shreveport in 2008.

She was a lifelong, faithful Catholic. By her request a private family graveside service honoring her will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Houma, Louisiana.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Pamela Bollinger of Baton Rouge, Gwendolyn Pauline Fanguy and husband, Michael of Shreveport, Fran Bollinger and husband Kerry Wascom of Shreveport; one son, Earl R. Bollinger Jr. and wife, Debra W. Bollinger of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Brandi Bollinger Daigle and husband, Chuck of Baton Rouge, Mik Fanguy and wife, Raisa Kharbash of Taejon, South Korea; Mia Fanguy Hamic and husband, Ross of Shreveport, Blake Bollinger Guichet and husband, Jeremy of Baton Rouge and Morgan Bollinger Moon and husband, Patrick of Baton Rouge. Alberta was blessed with nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Earl Bollinger and her parents.

Alberta was a graduate of Terrebonne High School, Soule' Business School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Nicholls State University. She began her teaching career at Holy Rosary Catholic School and then taught second grade for many years at Acadian Elementary for the Terrebonne Parish School System.

Her sewing abilities, as well as cooking skills were amazing. Family gatherings and holidays were special times for all to enjoy her talents. She was an avid LSU and Saints fan and especially looked forward to watching the games with her sons-in-law every football weekend. A life of learning and exercise was evident through hiking and extensive travel to 48 states, Mexico and Europe.

Our family extends its heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation for the wonderful care given by director Libby Kirkpatrick, Chef Ricky Thomas, Chef Linda McKinney, nurse Amber Greer and her forever buddy, Bonnie. We are amazed by the compassionate, caring CNAs in the Wheless Cottage of The Glen, who made this home for our mom. Special appreciation for the steadfast love and support shown by her caregivers: Kaya Walek, Marilyn Gipson, Margaret Payne, Jenell Dillard and Susan Gray. We are also grateful for the excellent attention and care received from the Willis-Knighton Hospice team of Dr. Savory, nurses Christina Graham and Evelyn Anderson.

Alberta's sweet smile, soft voice, and mischievous, sassy South Louisiana humor was endearing and enjoyed by her family, friends and all who met her. She experienced a wonderful life, was sensitive to the needs of others, was well-loved and will be remembered and missed by many.
