Jim was born January 25, 1920 in Howards Grove to Gustav and Josephine (Phalen) Hildebrand.
Following graduation from Sheboygan High School, Class of 1937, he furthered his education at Ripon College and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Medical School, earning his Doctorate Degree in Medicine in1943. His internship and residency in internal medicine took place at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH from 1943 to 1945 and a subsequent residency in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI from 1953 to 1956.
On November 4, 1944, Jim and Marian Towzey were united in marriage in Cincinnati.
Jim served his country in the US Army from 1945-1947 and later in the US Air Force.
Dr. Hildebrand practiced dermatology at the Sheboygan Clinic for forty years, until his retirement in 1987. He was affiliated with the County and State Medical Societies, and the American Academy of Dermatology. He held the position as Sheboygan County Coroner from 1948 to 1953.

In addition to his wife, Marian, Jim is survived by six children, James (Peggy) Hildebrand of St. Paul, MN, Carol Davis of Sacramento, CA, Sandra Kampmann, Michael (Christine) Hildebrand, Scott (Mary) Hildebrand, and Amy (Joel) Malson all of Sheboygan; a brother, Robert Hildebrand of St. George, Utah; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hildebrand; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Henry Ryan and Sarah Beth Ryan.
A memorial service, in celebration of Jim’s life, will be held Wednesday, 11:00 A.M. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Rev. James H. Hollister, Senior Minister, of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will officiate.
A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn Chapels on Wednesday, from
10:00 A.M.until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
Jim will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love of family and the northwoods, family camping trips, hiking, the Packers, and Sunday brat frys with family and friends.
