Mr. Williams was born August 24, 1940 in Brunswick County, son of the late Zadie Gilford Williams and Ruth Pigott Williams. Being a Brunswick County native, he grew up in the Shallotte Point area. As a young business man and entrepreneur, his early years were spent in the service industry. Milton was known as an avid fisherman and owner of Williams Oyster House. His oyster shucking ability and expertise earned him the title of North Carolina Oyster Shucking Champion for three consecutive years. Many days and nights he shared his knowledge and the love of fishing with local fishermen at the Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier where he served as the pier operator. He was the owner of The Party Mart and The Fisherman’s Daughters Restaurant of Ocean Isle Beach for several years, as well as the owner of the Citgo Station in Shallotte where he was known as “The Peanut Man” by the community. Milton was a member of United Vision Pentecostal Church for ten years. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Evelyn F. Williams; brothers, Charles Williams, Henderson Williams, Willie Williams, and James Hearth Williams; and sister, Joyce McNair.
Survivors include his wife Annette Reaves Williams of Ocean Isle Beach; daughters, Deborah Sheehan and husband Tommy of Wilmington, Cindy Hewett and husband David of Shallotte, Theresa Langley and significant other Jeff Williamson of Shallotte, Sonya Long and husband Derek of New Market, Alabama, and Missy Settlemyre and husband Billy of Shallotte; sisters, Ruth Whelley of Shallotte and Jane Sengsiri of Shallotte; nine grandchildren, Chris Cheers and wife Wendy, Zachary Hewett and wife Brittany, TJ Sheehan and wife Jackie, Bobby Long and wife Morgan, Lauren Langley, Nicholas Settlemyre, Hunter Long, Ian Hewett, and Brandon Settlemyre; and six great grandchildren, Preston McKinney, Chayton Cheers, Brooklynne Hewett, Tripp Long, Briella Sheehan, and Ruthie Long; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at United Vision Pentecostal Church in Shallotte with Reverend Maurice Milligan, Reverend Ricky Hewett, and Reverend Landis Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Brooks Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at United Vision Pentecostal Church.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Chris Cheers, Zachary Hewett, TJ Sheehan, Bobby Long, Nicholas Settlemyre, Hunter Long, Ian Hewett, and Brandon Settlemyre. Honorary pallbearers will be Lauren Langley, Preston McKinney, Chayton Cheers, and Jerry Jenkins.
