Marshall Dean Draughn, Sr., 83, passed away on November 7, 2024, at his residence peacefully and lovingly surrounded by family. Dean was born in Surry Country, NC the youngest child of Ernest Howard Draughn and Hazel Virginia Marshall Draughn. His parents and oldest sister, Novijo Draughn Seivers preceded him in death along with his beloved dog, Salty.
Dean is survived by his wife of 63 years Patricia Massey Draughn of Holden Beach, NC, and his only son Marshall Dean Draughn, Jr. and wife Sidney Scott Draughn along with three grandchildren, Marshall Dean Draughn III, Charles Scott Draughn, and Peter Harris Draughn of Severna Park, MD. He cherished his grandchildren and loved hearing of all their adventures and the honorable young men they became to continue his legacy. Dean is also survived his sister, Glenda Draughn Smith of North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Dean spent over 40 years as a senior executive at Perry Manufacturing in Mt. Airy, NC, a manufacturer of women's fashion apparel. His steady hand helped lead the organization through many turbulent days impacting the entire industry. Dean and his son worked closely together at Perry for more than 20 years. We extend our sincere gratitude to the W.K. Woltz, Sr. family and the entire Perry Manufacturing community.
Dean retired early to Holden Beach where he was involved with his community and dearly loved his neighbors and friends. He would do anything to help. Dean was always willing to lend a friendly hand. As stated by a close friend and neighbor, “He not only wanted to be your friend, but he wanted you to be friends with his other friends too, and if somebody didn’t want to be his friend he kept trying!”
He was a godly man, full of faith, always volunteering his time for those in need. He was a longtime member of Grace Moravian Church, Mt. Airy, NC and a local member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Supply, NC where he dedicated many hours of service with fundraisers and barbeques. Dean loved NASCAR, Carolina basketball, and mostly the NY Yankees.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at a later date.
