Lena Katherine Boze Roberts died April 21, 2015 at Summit Place of North Myrtle Beach, her place of residence since April, 2013.
Mrs. Roberts was born on October 24, 1917, in Bladen County, NC, the eldest daughter of Wythe Howard Boze and Rena Faison Boze. Her parents, four brothers, and three of her four sisters have predeceased her.
On April 23, 1941, she married Everett Oliver Roberts who died February 1, 1998. They were married for 57 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Katherine Roberts Moore and husband, Bob, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; a son, Everett Anderson Roberts and wife, Mary Ann, of Blacksburg, VA; one sister, Mary Epps Boze, of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, William Everett Moore, Sarah Katherine Moore Hagevik, Joseph Anderson Roberts, Samuel Burke Roberts, and Finn Axel Roberts. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Katherine Rose, Severin, Charlie, and Georgia.
Mrs. Roberts graduated from McKenney High School in McKenney, VA in 1934. She attended Blackstone College for Girls, earning a diploma in Business in 1935. Following her graduation, she began her career in Dinwiddie County, VA, working for local attorneys, and for the State of Virginia in the Dinwiddie County Court offices. In December, 1985, after 32 years, she retired as Clerk of the Dinwiddie County Combined District Courts.
Mrs. Roberts was a faithful member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church in McKenney, VA, for over 60 years, continuing that lifelong relationship even after relocating to High Point, NC, in 1994.
Lena Roberts was a remarkable woman. In addition to being a loving and conscientious mother and wife, she is remembered also for being a wonderful cook, an exceptional grammarian, a memorable Sunday School teacher, knowledgeable, smart, resourceful, a compassionate listener, a generous friend, just and righteous, opinionated and feisty, and a pretty-good joke teller.
Funeral services will be held on April 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, McKenney, VA. Interment will follow at Asbury cemetery.
Following the services, the family will greet friends and relatives in the fellowship hall of the Church.
