He was born on October 3, 1946 in New Hanover County, NC, to the late Harry Hymrick Prince Sr. and Ruth White Prince McIlwain. He graduated from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to earn a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and a certificate in chaplaincy from Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC.
Rick spent his career working in service of the church and as a minister, chaplain, and counselor. He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church community, serving as a deacon for many years. He also volunteered regularly at Union Elementary to read with students.
He was happiest at the beach – swimming in the ocean year-round, watching sunrises and sunsets, enjoying the calm and peace, and eating Calabash seafood. He enjoyed starting his days quietly, drinking Starbucks coffee on his front porch. Rick loved to read and spent many of his recent days reading several books at once, always making time for his daily devotions. He cherished quality time spent with his family, especially eating ice cream and Krispy Kreme donuts with his kids and grandkids.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Laura Morton and husband Jeff; daughter, Anna Prince; son, Joshua Prince and wife, Mono; brother, Stephen Prince and wife, Donna; grandsons, Lucas and Logan Morton; and his significant other, Marcia Montgomery.
A memorial service to celebrate Rick’s life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 12 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 623 Village Road, Shallotte, NC 28470. The family invites you to join them after the service for lunch and visitation at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Shallotte or the Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Protection Organization.
