Howard Wendell Green

Howard Wendell Green was born November 12, 1917 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Gilbert and Lena Green. He attended Fort Dodge High School and Junior College and Iowa State College, and joined the Army Air Corps as a Cadet in 1942. He met Martha Haney on the Fourth of July, 1943 in Rapid City South Dakota, and they were married on September 19, 1943.

Howard spent 2 years in Europe as an Air Force officer during World War II, and upon his return, he and Martha settled in California, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Tech in Pasadena.

He worked as a chemist until he reentered the Air Force in 1951, and they raised three children, Miriam, Deborah, and Doug in California, Ohio, and New Mexico.

Howard retired from the Air Force in 1967 and continued to work in aerospace as a Program Analyst for TRW for about 10 more years. After a second retirement, Howard and Martha enjoyed Airstream trailer travel and moved to Sequim, Washington in 1981. After a brief illness Martha passed away on October 19, 1982.

Howard was active for many years in the Olympic Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship, and he liked to attend the reunions of the 463rd Air Force Bomb Group. He was a member of the Klahhane Hiking Club, and he did presentations for the Clallam County Genealogical Society. His passions also included photography, computers, trailer travel, and Mandelbrot sets. During the last years of his life he became a real classic movie buff and enjoyed reading suspense novels. He continued to take 1-2 mile walks into his nineties.

Howard will be greatly missed by his children and son-in-law - Miriam, Deborah, Doug, and Bob; his 4 grandchildren and their spouses – Jennelle, Laura, Pavel, Jonathan, Rebekah, and Amy; and his 3 great grandchildren – Svetlana, Gwynivere, and Pyotr.

There will be a viewing at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, Thursday, December 8th at 10:00am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am. George Stratton will be officiating.
