Died Monday, November 12, 2018. He was born in St. Petersburg, FL, on December 21, 1938. He graduated from St. Pete High School, class of 1956. He and his wife Cecily Derrick Tomlin, were together for 4 years in high school and college before they were married. They just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Dick went into the U.S. Marines after high school as an enlisted person, went back to college and went into the Marine Corps again as an officer for three years. He went to the University of Florida and got his BS degree and graduated from FSU, where Cecily was going to school. He then went to the University of Pennsylvania for four years and got his D.M.D. degree.
Dr. Tomlin was a Dentist in Pinellas Park for forty-five years, President of the Pinellas County Dental Association in 2001, and was a State Dental Examiner in Gainesville for several years. He, also, was University of Florida dental clinic volunteer and educator for quite a few years. He loved his patients genuinely and they felt the same way about him. He took care of a lot of Medicaid kids who had no place else to go.
Dick was a member of the Seminole Rotary Club for many years, volunteer for Toys for Tots, an Eagle Scout and a Scout leader. He is survived by his wife, Cecily; two sons, Rick (wife Elizabeth) and Mark; daughters, Holly Tomlin, and Heather Holland (husband Donnie), sister, June (husband Al) Stephenson. His grandchildren are Brittany Tomlin King (Brian), Mathew Tomlin, Christian Tomlin, Morgan and Reiss Tomlin, JD, Brady, and Kaylie Holland and great-grandson Bodhi King. There are also nieces and nephews that he adored.
Dr. Tomlin loved his family greatly, football, the Marine Corps., his patients, reading, boating, music, the sunshine, and life in general. The funeral is at Palm Lake Christian Church on Monday, November 19, 2018 with the viewing at 12:00 and the service at 1:00. The burial is at Garden Sanctuary in Seminole at approx. 3:00 P.M. with a Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Dr. Tomlin is going to be missed terribly. He will always be remembered and respected for his unwavering commitment and devotion to his family, his community, to God, and to his country.
