William Roy Gray, Sr., born February 13, 1928 in Wrightsboro, TX, to James and Edna Gray, died May 28 in Marion, TX. Roy served in the Air Corps in 1946 as an airplane mechanic and upon discharge continued in this field working for civil service at Randolph AFB until his retirement in 1973. After retirement from civil service he was a farmer/rancher until 2008. He enjoyed being outdoors, was an avid hunter and had a respect for nature and the land which he taught to his children and grandsons.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth, his parents and a sister Doris Aldermann. He is survived by his children: Marjorie Lizana and husband William of Marion. WR Gray, JR and wife Kathy of Smiley, and Marilyn Moltz and companion Don McCance of Marion; six grandsons: Kevin Lizana, Eric Moltz and wife Tobie, Brad Moltz and wife Lisa, Matthew Gray and wife Roxann, J.D. Gray, and Chase Moltz and wife Toni; four great-grandchildren: Morgan Moltz, Gavin Moltz, Dillon Gray, and Luke Gray; brother, James Gray and wife Ramona; and long-time friend Pauline Stewart.
Visitation will be held in the Goetz Funeral Home Stateroom from Noon-7 pm on Monday, May 31, with family present from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Marion at 10 am on Tuesday, June 1. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Roy’s six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, PO Box 68, Marion, TX 78124 or Guadalupe regional Hospices Services, 1215 E. Court, Seguin, TX 78155.
