Miguel A. Torres

Affectionately known as Don Guelo, “DG.” Miguel was born on August 29, 1944, in Corozal, Puerto Rico, to Dolores Rodriguez and Pablo Torres. After graduating from high school, he joined the National Guard, where he was honorably discharged in 1963. He later moved to New York City, where he raised his family for over 40 years. Guelo took pride in being a hard worker and worked as an asbestos specialist for Con Edison.

Guelo truly cherished the little things in life, from spending time with his loved ones and spoiling his grandchildren to savoring a good cup of coffee and solving the New York Post daily word search. He was a passionate sports fan, loved playing dominoes, and relished in savoring chuletas and pernil. He always carried his hometown in his heart, a true Corozaleño, and frequently visited Puerto Rico for lengthy stays.

In his retirement, he lived in Secaucus, NJ, where he was an incredibly caring and dedicated man who always provided his family with unwavering love, encouragement, and tenderness. His presence radiated pure love. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father figure, and friend. A man of strong faith, he was known for his charisma, generosity, and kindness and will always be remembered for affectionately calling others ‘Baby.’

His loving spirit is carried on by his daughters, Magali Torres and Blanca Torres-Santiago, and his son Miguel Torres Jr. Guelo also leaves behind his grandchildren: Damaneke and Dom Santiago, Melanie and Ryan Torres, Sienna Salamo; and his great-grandchildren, Dom Luca Santiago and Skylar Prestimonico, whom he adored and cherished as their “Papa.” He is also survived by his brothers Jose “Junior,” Carlos “Cuco,” Pablo “Sonny,” Mario “Oscar,” and sister Blanca “Annie.”

Our Father will be deeply missed for the love he showed us and for his ability to lift our spirits on our most difficult days. We will forever hold a place for you in our hearts.

In honor of Miguel A. Torres Sr., a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ.
