at home on June 2, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife, Ellen Geraldine (nee Lyons) in
2015. James was born on September 3, 1921 in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, NY to Albert
Hogan and Marie (nee Bernard) Hogan. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corp
during WWII. James received a Purple Heart, Silver Star, and a Bronze Star for his bravery
during the invasion of Iwo Jima in February of 1945. After the war he became a sheet metal
mechanic and active union member, serving as president of the union for multiple terms. James
was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Club, Union City, NJ for more than 80 years, also
serving as president of the club for several years.
Survivors include his loving children, Gerard, Thomas, Kevin, and Jane Lynch and her
husband Edward. He was the devoted grandfather of Colleen Lynch and Shannon Hogan. Also
survived by his sister in laws Antoinette Zenzius and Mary Ellen Polumski and many nieces and
nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5th from 3-7pm at Leber Funeral Home,
2000 Kennedy Blvd., Union City, NJ. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 6th at 9:30am from
the Leber Funeral Home, in Union City then to St. Joseph and Michael Church where a 10:30
am mass will be offered. The internment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi, NJ.
