He was born to Ronald and Gladys Stevenson on January 19, 1930 in Seattle WA. He grew up in the town of Bremerton, attended Bremerton High School, Olympic Junior College and graduated from the University of Washington. After college he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after four years of service. From there he spent the next 32 years working for IBM. He was fortunate to be able to retire early and live a long and healthy retirement of leisure, travel and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.
Ron had a life-long passion for all sports, but for baseball most of all. He never bragged about it, but he was a much-celebrated baseball player in high school and college. He was proclaimed by the media at the time as the “Ace” of his teams pitching staff. Aside from his friends and family, there was nothing he loved more than his beloved Huskies. His years of military service provided him with remarkable experiences and stories that he could tell so well; but only if you asked him to. Spending an entire career with one company may be a thing of the past, but the commitment and dedication necessary to do so, fit him to a T. Despite a family of substantial size, he was always there for every important milestone, to cheer for the victories, but also to provide support and encouragement for the disappointments.
He is survived by Florence Stevenson, his wife of 47 years; brother Tom (Dena) Stevenson, sister Margie (Cliff) Knox, brother in-law Rod (Norma) Miller; children Nancy (Mike) Smith, Scott Stevenson; stepchildren Cathy (Bob) DeFever, Joanne (Alan) Coriell, Chris (Don) Robison, twenty-three grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Stepson David Parker, brother in-law Randy (Carolyn) Miller and brother Richard “Dick” (Sharren) Stevenson.
A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in West Seattle, May 16, 2019 at 11:00AM
