Robert’s life was filled with a number of passions such as photography and gardening. His family and friends had an exclusive view of his world through his expressive photos. Whether he packed his wide angle lens for panoramic views, or his macro lens for his beloved dahlias and trumpet lilies, each was an insight into his love and respect for life. He shared nature’s beauty with those around him by adding a few of his flowers here, and there. One of his favorite subjects to snap was the majestic Mount Rainier located in the Cascade mountain range south of Seattle, Washington.
In Robert’s younger days, he was quite the outdoorsman. He hunted and fished for salmon and steelhead. Robert was also an accomplished athlete who enjoyed skiing, rock climbing and hiking. He found that going deep into nature was the best way to get the perfect photo. His insatiable curiosity, appetite for adventure, and optimism enabled him to explore a myriad of interests.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Robert lent his knowledge and expertise to The Boeing Company. There, his love for deciphering code, string theory, and gravitation were appreciated and respected. Figuring out and making things work properly was his forte. He remained active in the Boeing community well after retirement.
His faith was essential as well. Always one to give thanks and praise, he lived a life of grace and was called blessed. With an everlasting smile on his face and love in his heart, Robert made instant friends around the globe. Many can attest to his willingness to assist others in times of need. Truly, Robert made this world a better place to be.
Although many will miss Robert’s presence on Earth, his spirit will forever live in our hearts. He will also be remembered as a truly gentle-man who lived each day fully and carried his sense of humor, frankness, and optimism throughout his final days.
Robert was predeceased by sister Sylvia Hassett and her daughter Julia Hassett Bon Durant, and by his sister Virginia Grogan and her daughter Margaret Mary Grogan. He is survived by his nephew Kevin Hassett (wife Kristie), great-nephews John Walter Stokes Hassett, James Stokes Hassett, and Julia's sons, Mathew Bon Durant and Daniel Bon Durant.
